Who I Am

I’m Max, an overlander and data nerd based in Portland, Oregon. By day I work in tech; by night (and weekends) I’m wrenching on my Tacoma Hybrid, analyzing datalogs, coaching snowboard teams and planning the next adventure.

This site is where I document what I learn—not marketing fluff, but real data from real driving and living with this vehicle. If I make a mistake, you’ll read about it here. If something works better than expected, you’ll see the numbers to prove it.

What I Drive & Ride

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Hybrid - My daily driver and adventure rig. Currently running:

  • JB4 piggyback tune (Map 6 custom conservative)
  • Küat Ibex bed rack with panels
  • Roofnest Condor Overland roof tent
  • Custom 12V electrical system with Victron components
  • Various overlanding accessories

Cannondale Treadwell Neo EQ - My e-bike for urban adventures and commuting. Current projects include suspension upgrades and comfort improvements.

Why This Site Exists

There’s a lot of noise in the automotive tuning world—forums full of speculation, YouTube videos with clickbait titles, and marketing materials that promise the moon. What’s harder to find is actual data.

When I got my JB4, I wanted to know: does it actually work? What are the real-world fuel economy impacts? How does the ECU respond to different fuels? I couldn’t find detailed answers, so I started logging data obsessively.

This site is my attempt to share what I’ve learned with others who value data over hype.
